Unified Payments is a Merchant Account provider specializing in mobile and tablet point of sale systems.

The company is a subsidiary of Net Element, Inc currently headquartered in Miami Beach Florida. John Perez is the CEO.

There are some potential legal issues in its history, although many of the details of the accusations cannot be confirmed.

Unified Payments Overview

Unified Payments is a merchant account provider that specializes in mobile and tablet POS systems.

It offers interchange-plus pricing which is standard for the industry. However, the contracts are lengthy and come with a lot of extra fees.

The current CEO is John Perez, however, the company was at one time run by Oleg Frier. This former executive chairman of the company has been accused of scamming Gene Zell, essentially stealing his company Aptito. The details around this accusation have not been confirmed, however, it may be something potential customers may want to be aware of.

In addition to that, the company has a subsidiary called Discover Data LLC which was involved in a lawsuit. According to the lawsuit, the vice president of the company hired women to seduce and swindle potential customers in a bar.

The case was ultimately thrown out due to a procedural error, but customers may want to know of the potential legal problems faced by Unified Payments and its subsidiary Discover Data LLC.

Unified Payments Advertising & Sales

Unified Payments uses independent salespeople to sell its products. This is a common tactic in the industry, however, it can backfire as salespeople may misrepresent the product or use overly aggressive sales tactics.

In the case of Unified Payments, there are some online complaints of being overcharged or not being aware of what was in the contract. This may indicate problems with salespeople misrepresenting or not being aware of contract details.

Unified Payments Pricing, Rates & Fees

Unified Payments offers interchange pricing on all transactions plus 0.30%. American Express transactions get charged a higher rate of interchange plus 0.50% plus $0.10.

Online transactions are charged at a rate of 2.90% plus $0.20. Online payment processing also usually comes with additional fees, although their website doesn’t specify what they are.

In addition to transaction fees, the contract comes with several other fees. This includes:

An early termination fee of $750
An annual PCI compliance fee of $300
A monthly minimum fee of $25
Monthly compliance fee of $3.95
A monthly PCI non-compliance fee of $19.95 (which you would theoretically get out of if your business is PCI compliant.)
Monthly statement fee of $2

The contract length and the high amount of fees make this merchant account provider more expensive than is typical in the industry.
