The standard Sterling Payment Technologies agreement (available below) is a three-year agreement through Chase Paymentech with automatic renewal for one year, an early termination fee of $395, a PCI Compliance fee (sometimes called an annual fee) that may approach $150, an undisclosed monthly minimum fee, and a tiered pricing schedule. It appears as though some of these fees may vary according to the agent setting up the account and a merchant’s size, business type, and time in business. It’s likely that Sterling’s contract terms have changed since its acquisition by EVO Payments International, but we have not found any information about its new contract.
Above all else, merchant complainants report frustration with the company’s early termination fee and service length. These contract terms appear to be slightly more expensive than industry averages; we have therefore awarded Sterling a “C” grade in this category. See the Sterling Payment Technologies Merchant Agreement.
